Bethel College Community Build
In mid-March of 2008, the Bethel College Senior Class decided they wanted to give back to their community. In mid-April of 2008, they broke ground in Mishawaka to build a new house. Three weeks later, on May 3, 2008, Umekia Johnson and her familiy stood inside their new home. Surrounded by friends, family, and volunteers, Umekia thanked all of those who came together to give her this opportunity.
The Bethel College Community Build truly displayed the strength of community that surrounds the Bethel College campus. During the month of April, the Bethel College students, faculty, staff, alumni, and partnering businesses came together to build a home for the Johnson family. This unique Habitat for Humanity project brought together the entire Bethel College family, in addition to various community leaders and business owners in the Mishawaka/South Bend area. With the strong commitment and hard work of both skilled and unskilled volunteers, the house progressed very quickly into a beautiful new home for a deserving family.
