World Build

World Build 2009 is complete!

This year's World Build started on Monday, Sept. 21, with two full weeks of building! Build days took place from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., Monday through Friday and continued on Saturdays in October from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. The house is located at 737 Frances Street, on a property that was recently donated by the South Bend Heritage Foundation.

Tiffany Johnson and her family, Terran (7), Percy (13) and Tiana (9), are the partner family for the 2009 World Build. Tiffany is excited to be partnered with World Build, and she is currently working on completing her sweat equity in preparation for closing on her house.

About World Build
Fall 2007 marked the first World Build home in St. Joseph County. This unique effort, led by a committee of dynamic and committed volunteers, worked alongside Mike and Tracy Hall and their four children to accomplish the Halls' dream of owning their own home. This partnership continued into 2008, this time with the Gomez family, whose home was completed in fall 2008 in the Near Northwest Neighborhood.

Why A World Build?
People of many nations and faiths come together to build the United States. Today, America still offers hope and opportunity to those working hard to build a better life. To honor that heritage and to help create a brighter future for all, community residents of diverse nationalities, faiths and cultural backgrounds are joining forces for World Build.

Together, World Build participants will pool their talents, passion, and determination to build a home. By uniting community members in this common endeavor, World Build seeks to break down barriers and lay the foundation for our children to live and work together successfully, regardless of difference.

Dyttha Gallagher is the chairperson for this build; contact her if you are interested in participating. In addition, World Build needs support from individuals and companies in the form of financial contributions, materials or the services of skilled trades people.
